The other way for guests to register at an event is scanning a driver’s license. This system captures the exact same information – name, address, license expiration date, age, date of birth, whether or not the person is legally able to drive – every time, without error. This limits liability and provides accurate demographic data for every participant. It also eliminates the step of having a person physically look at and read piles of hand-written business reply cards (BRCs), many of which are hard to decipher, at a later date.

Registration works two ways: If guests pre-register on the event’s website, guests print their E-registration (much like an airline E-ticket). When they arrive, the barcode is scanned with a hand-held computer and their information is automatically entered into the ESI database. This check-in system is extremely quick and reliable, and it can process many people in very little time.
