Journalists Poised to Drive New Mercedes-Benz SLR Roadster
Nov. 20, 2007

It’s not an exaggeration to say that automotive journalists receive at least 100 invitations annually to long leads, short leads and backgrounders. They don’t have time to attend them all, but there’s a good chance that the 12 top-gun auto scribes invited by Mercedes-Benz USA to drive the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR Roadster in Los Angeles this week didn’t say no.

With logistical help from ESI, two waves of six journalists each will fly into Los Angeles to experience firsthand the exclusivity that goes along with owning an SLR Roadster. On Day One, the journalists will be greeted at the airport and dine at Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills. Day Two is devoted to driving the SLR Roadster through Malibu, Brentwood and down Rodeo Drive before departing on Day Three. Home base is the Beverly Hills Hotel.

According to MBUSA.com, this $497,750 stunner features a “swing-door design, a two-tone soft top and undiluted open-air driving pleasure at the highest level.” And if that’s not tempting enough, the SLR Roadster cranks out 617 horsepower with its AMG V-8 engine and can achieve a top speed of 206 mph.
